A month after the Argentine government had declared lockdown, the first cases of COVID-19 were detected in a highly overpopulated, low-income neighborhood in Buenos Aires. The virus rapidly spread under conditions of unmet needs in housing, access to water and sanitation. Similarly, in an urbanized indigenous neighborhood in the northeast of the country, the pandemic had devastating effects. The arrival of COVID-19 visualized structural inequality as well as class and racial discrimination.
