Lisette  Varón Carvajal recently graduated from Rutgers with a Ph.D. in History. She recently completed an internship with Neogranadina, where she worked with historians Santiago Muñoz (UT Austin) and Antonio Jaramillo (Universidad del Norte) and started to develop a podcast of Colombian colonial history tentatively titled “Zona Colonial." The goal of this project is to reach high-school students and teach them about unknown aspects of colonial society. Lisette was in charge of developing an episode devoted to women, particularly to abortion, during the colonial era. 

Now, Lisette will continue her journey in academia at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, as an assistant professor. She started on August 1st, 2023, and will be teaching an introductory course on Colombian history this semster as well as Colonial Colombian History next semester. Lisette decided to take this position because it is one of the best places in the world to work as a historian of Colombia. She has a wonderful community of peers and amazing support for her research and projects. She also has a great community of students. Lisette hopes to receive tenure through this new role and will be working at Universidad de los Andes for years to come.
