Thirty professors, students and guests heard UC Davis Professor (and Visiting Fellow at Princeton University) Charles Walker present his new research on the Shining Path movement in Peru.  Professor Walker has already published an article on Sendero's children and young adult recruits ("Inocencia: Shining Path and the Recruitment of Minors." Journal of Social History 2021).  Professor Jorge Marcone of Spanish and Portuguese led the questions and discussion.

Charles is a professor of history at the University of California, Davis. At Davis he directs the hemispheric institute of the Americas. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago sometime in 1992 Chuck is a historian of Peru with a decades long commitment to Peruvian history and Peruvian studies. He is the author of multiple books including co editing the Lima reader, co editor of an edition of famed Peruvian historian Alberto Flores Galindo work. He authored in 2014 The Tupac Amaru Rebellion and in 1999 Smoldering Ashes: Cuzco and the Creation of Republican Peru.
