Professor Yesenia Barragan (History) has won an NEH Fellowship for 2022-2023. Prof. Barragan will be working on: "A Country of Their Own: African Americans and the Promise of Antebellum Latin America (1820–1870)".  The project focuses on Latin America as a beacon of freedom and an immigration destination for African Americans during the antebellum period.  This will be Prof. Barragan's second book, after the recent publication of her first (Slavery and Gradual Emancipation on the Colombian Black Pacific).
