Harvard's ALARI 2nd Continental Conference on Afro-Latin American Studies
Wednesday, December 07, 2022, 09:00am

On December 7, 2022, Harvard University will welcome Afro-Latin America to its campus. Almost 250 speakers will convene at Harvard for the ALARI Second Continental Conference on Afro-Latin American Studies. Seventy panels of 3-5 participants each will present research on racial inequality, gender, religion, culture, citizenship, and mobilization, just to name a few topics.

This is a platform in which senior and junior faculty, students, activists, practitioners, artists, teachers, members of civil society, and public officials and employees share research results and engage in public discussions and debates. Presentations take place in Spanish, Portuguese, and English and range across the many disciplines that contribute to Afro-Latin American Studies. Over 60 percent of presenters self-identify as persons of African descent, and 68 percent as women.

The Conference is organized by the Afro-Latin American Research Institute (ALARI) in collaboration with the Office of Provost, David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS), and with ALARI partner institutions in the region, such as GEALA (Argentina), CEAF (Colombia), CEBRAP (Brazil), INAH (Mexico), and CLAS, University of Pittsburgh (USA).
