CLAS Andean Studies Working Group invites you to a virtual talk on “Today’s Challenges in Writing Indigenous Literature and Women’s Stories in Wampis” by Dina Ananco.

Bio: Ananco is an Awajun and Wampis poet from the Peruvian Amazon. She studied literature at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and completed a master’s in Peruvian and Latin American literature at the same institution. Ananco is a translator and interpreter with the National Register of Translators and Interpreters of Indigenous Languages (Ministry of Culture of Peru). Her short stories and poems have appeared in a variety of literary magazines. She has been invited to participate in literary conferences and events in Peru and other countries. In 2022, she was awarded the Peruvian National Prize in Literature in the category of Literature in Indigenous Languages for Sanchiu (2021), the first published poetry book in the Wampis language. 

The presentation will be in Spanish and Wampis. English interpretation will be provided.
